🇬🇧 In November 1918, Poland regained independence after 123 years. Poland's road to independence was long and hard. Despite numerous uprisings, many battles fought and resistance against the invaders, it was only in 1914 that the hope of actually regaining the country appeared. During World War I, the invaders stood on two opposite sides: Russia - Germany and Austria-Hungary. World War I was an opportunity to regain the independence that Poles expected from the partitions. Our countrymen were not naive. They knew that they would have to fight for freedom. Various political and independence organizations and paramilitary formations began to arise. On June 4, 1917, the first units of the Polish Army were created in France. They were to fight on the side of the Entente with Germany, and after independence, they were to join the Polish Armed Forces. At the same time, Polish troops began to form Polish Legions in Austria-Hungary, which were quickly dissolved when their members refused to swear allegiance to the German emperor. In January 1918, in the American Congress, the message of President Thomas Woodrow Wilson was delivered, in which point 13 referred to "the creation of an independent Polish state in the territories inhabited by the unquestionably Polish population, with free access to the sea, political and economic independence, and the integrity of its territories be guaranteed by an international convention. " On October 7, 1918, the Regency Council announced a manifesto proclaiming the rebuilding of the Polish State. On November 10, Józef Piłsudski, after leaving the fortress in Magdeburg, came to Warsaw and established cooperation with the Regency Council, which on November 11 gave him full power over the restored troops of the Polish Army.
