Before, during the II WW and after - hundreds thousands Jews have changed their identity.
They have adapted Polish sounding surnames. They were advised to do it before the II WW by Russian Comintern, because they were communist agents and spies acting illegally in Poland against Poland.
Other Jews have changed surnames during the war. Some, because they were afraid of Germans, and some, because they were treators who were reporting to Soviets and killing Poles, so they were afraid death sentence for treason of Polish nation and causing death of Polish families.
The fourth group of Jews changed their surnames after the II WW, because in soviet occupation of Poland and new communist reality Jews were hunting for Poles, torturing them and killing, so they were afraid, that they will be punished for their crimes one day.
It was also the reason, why they escaped to Israel. Israel is home to many criminals and murderers, who have Polish blood at their hands.
